B.Sc. in Phytogeography (1988) and PhD in Earth Sciences at the Univ. of Milano (1992), fellow at the Univ. of Amsterdam and at the former CNR - Centre for the Quaternary Alpine Geodynamics. Former lecturer in Quaternary Geology, Paleobotany and Palynology at the Univ. of Milano Bicocca and Milano. He has written 180 papers and tutored 60 M.Sc./B.Sc. dissertations and 7 PhD projects. Currently he leads the Italian initiative of the project - ICDP-DOVE (Drilling Overdeepened Alpine Valleys); a bilateral project Italy- Armenia (Geo-biodiversity along an Armenian ecoclimatic gradient); and the project VALMARES (ValMalenco Research on the origin and history of high pastures), while being affiliate to the National Biodiversity Future Center (CNR-PNRR). His research interests are related to the historical reconstruction of terrestrial ecosystems at different timescales of the Quaternary until the contemporary phase of global warming. He applies the mainstream historical plant ecology approach to afford problems in palaeoclimatology, historical plant ecology, integrated stratigraphy, past and contemporary dynamics of terrestrial ecosystems, and human &#x2013; environment relationships.</description></oembed>
