«Towards a process based understanding of the Mediterranean Neogene»
The Interim Colloquium “Towards a process-based understanding of the Mediterranean Neogene” is organized under the aegis of the Regional Committee of the Mediterranean Neogene Stratigraphy (RCMNS) and under the patronage of the Italian Geological Society (SGI) to honour Frits Hilgen, one of the most famous geologists who contributed to the understanding of time in Geology through Stratigraphy. The meeting will be held in Catania (Sicily) from September 29th to October 3rd 2025 and will include 3 days of scientific discussions and 2 days of field excursions. Frits will be a special guide in the field to visit Neogene key sites and sections in Sicily, including GSSP sections, in which he laid the groundwork of cyclostratigraphy and astrochronology.
