About Us

The “Paleoclimate Dynamics” Working Group was established following a workshop organized in 2017 by the Department of Earth System Sciences and Environmental Technologies (DSSTTA) of the CNR at the Institute of Marine Sciences (CNR-ISMAR) in Venice. This event brought together around 70 researchers from Italian universities and research institutions, providing a platform to present their work in the field of paleoclimate research.

Recognizing both the significance of Italian paleoclimate studies and the lack of a structured network to enhance their potential, the DSSTTA decided to promote the creation of the first “Paleoclimate Dynamics” Working Group within the CNR. The group was officially established on May 22, 2011.

In its current form (renewed for the 2023-2025 biennium), the group consists of twelve researchers affiliated with nine DSSTTA institutes, three universities, and one member from the DSSTTA staff.

Tasks of the Gdl

To survey and harmonize the research activities on paleoclimate reconstructions and paleoclimate dynamics carried out at the Institutes belonging to the Department of Earth System Sciences and Environmental Technologies.
To propose common research topics on paleoclimate dynamics.
To identify possible opportunities and project calls at national and international level and to support the CNR paleoclimate community in participating in such calls.
To organize at least one annual meeting and, periodically, doctoral and post-doctoral schools dedicated to paleoclimate dynamics.
To prepare an annual report containing the summary of the paleoclimate activities carried out at the CNR DSSTTA Institutes.
